Flowers have always played a big role when it comes to funerals and cremation services in Lugoff, SC. Not only are they used throughout the funeral as décor, but the grieving family also often receives sympathy flower arrangements from friends and family who wish to express their condolences. While flowers make beautiful ways to express one’s sympathy to the family, some people may prefer to send an alternative to flowers.

This can be because flowers wilt and die soon after they are delivered. Because of this, people may want to send something that will last. Other people may not want to choose flowers to send because they want to have something more unique delivered. Whatever the reason, if you are looking for an alternative to flowers to send as a way to express your condolences and sympathy, here are a few of our favorite ideas.

A Plant or Succulent

If you like the idea of flowers but want something that will last, consider sending a plant or a succulent. These plants can remain alive and vibrant long after any flowers giving your friend a long lasting token of your love and support. Just make sure to select a plant that does not require a lot of special attention as your friend will most likely have much more on their mind for a while than taking care of a plant. To find a good choice, talk with a local florist or nursey as they can help you find the perfect selection.

Make a Donation

If you have a friend who really just doesn’t do flowers or plants, consider making a charitable donation in their loved one’s name. This donation could be to a cause or group that the deceased supported, or one that their family or spouse stands for. Often times families may prefer donations instead of flowers and actually request this in the obituary or funeral invitations.

Send a Meal

Sending food instead of flowers can be a much welcomed delivery. When your friend is grieving, they most likely are not eating very well. This could be because they are stressed and simply not paying attention to their own health or simply overwhelmed by grief and stress and not eating much at all. Having a nice meal delivered to their door can be a much needed and appreciated gift. And with so many delivery companies in towns such as Door Dash and Favor, this can be done very easily.

Create a Care Package

Care packages can be wonderful alternative to flowers as these bundles can be full of items that are useful and can bring comfort. You could choose to have a premade package delivered or create your own and add in items like snack foods, everyday essentials like toothpaste and shampoo, as well as comfort items like cozy socks and scented candles.

Final Thoughts

Sending flowers to express your sympathy is a wonderful and meaningful way to do so. However, sometimes flowers just may not be the best choice. In this case, it’s nice to know there are several other options for you to choose from.
