LUGOFF – Funeral service to celebrate the life of James Franklin “Jim” Carter, 88, will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Camden with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The Rev. Bruce Hancock will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship center. Mr. Carter passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 10, 2016. Born on July 20, 1927 in Old Hickory, Tenn., he was the son of the late Tony L. and Edna Pierce Carter. Mr. Carter married Mary Sue Tidwell Carter on June 29, 1951. They have three children, Jimmy Carter (Debbie) of Lexington, Pamela Spivey (Don) of Camden, and Cheryl Cobb (Randy) of Chesnee, S.C.; sister, Margaret Odell of Jackson, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, Nikki Pickering (Alton), Jennifer Craft (Eric), Sarah Boswell (Boz), Jonathan Spivey (Caroline), Ryan Spivey (Laura), Scott Spivey (Melissa), Jason Cobb (Jennifer), Tim Cobb (Chelsea), and Phillip Cobb; and 18 great-grandchildren. Mr. Carter was a WWII veteran having served 4 years in the United States Navy. He retired as a supervisor for DuPont and following his retirement he owned House of Flowers in Lugoff. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Camden where he was an ordained deacon, enjoyed his Men’s Sunday School Class and was a soloist in the adult choir. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 17 and the Lugoff Optimist Club. When his family would have gatherings, he loved watching the grandchildren swimming and playing games. Family was very important to him and he loved being with them. Mr. Carters other passions were participating in plays at the Fine Arts Center where he had parts in “The Odd Couple”, “Carousel”, “Fiddler on the Roof”, and the “Legs and Lace Follies”.
