BETHUNE – Funeral service for Grady Ponds, Jr., 67, will be held on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at Catoe Chapel Church of God in Christ with burial to follow in Sandy Level Baptist Church Cemetery. Superintendent James Lee will officiate. Mr. Ponds passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2016. Born in Bethune, he was the son of the late Robert Grady Ponds and Lucille Clark Ponds. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and retired from BBA Nonwovens. He received a Master’s Degree from Limestone College. He was a Mason and enjoyed gardening fishing and traveling. Surviving are his sons, Grady Bernard Ponds (Rhonda) and Gregory Bryan Ponds; sister, Doris Catoe (Albert); brothers, John Ponds (Sylvia), Shelvis Ponds (Yvonne), Gary Ponds (Pam), Ronnie Ponds (Debra) and Kenneth Ponds; sister-in-law, Kathleen Ponds and grandchildren, Channen Ponds, Shiheem Ponds, Chelsea Ponds, Chaddwick Ponds, Sheldon Ponds, Chandler Ponds and Shelby Ponds . He was predeceased by a daughter, Gloria Jean Ponds; and brothers, Calvin Ponds, Charles Ponds and Levi Ponds.
