Obituary of Wilson J. Bryan

LUGOFF – Wilson Jennings Bryan, Jr., 82, the beloved husband of 61 years to Amy Patricia “Pat” Bryan, died Friday, October 31, 2014 after an extended illness. He was born September 2, 1932 in Augusta, Ga., the son of the late Wilson Bryan, Sr. and Lois Bonnette Bryan. Mr. Bryan was a member of Lugoff First Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher and a deacon. Over his lifetime he served his church and his God in many capacities. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia with a B.S. in Chemistry and Biology, and had two years of graduate studies at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Bryan built a successful career working with many international chemical companies. He was granted many patents and retired from Hardwicke Chemical in Elgin as the Director of Marketing. He served in the United States Army. He was a Rotarian, Kiwanian, and a member of several Chemical Associations. He was a delegate to the 1976 Republican National Convention and was passionate about his conservative values. The family will receive friends Monday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Lugoff First Baptist Church with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 7100 Garners Ferry Road in Columbia, S.C. Surviving in addition to his wife are his son, Michael Jennings Bryan Sr. (Kim) of Lexington; daughters, Betsy Reid (Rev. Ken) of Seneca, Lynda Cooke (Rev. Mike) of Mt. Pleasant, and Pam Barker (Jerry) of Lugoff; sisters, Martha Smith, Nina Ward and Eloise Jenkins; 11 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lugoff First Baptist Children’s Ministry Center, 106 Longtown Road, Lugoff, S.C. 29078 or the American Cancer Society, 22300 Lake Blvd, Atlanta, Ga. 30319-5312
