Obituary of David Lenwood Robinson

LUGOFF – A service to celebrate the life of The Rev. David Lenwood Robinson, 90, will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Camden. A private burial will follow in Lugoff First Baptist Church Cemetery.  The Rev. Rusty Shuler and the Rev. Greg Sweet will officiate.  The family will receive friends Sunday 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.

Pastor Dave entered the gates of Heaven on Monday, January 8, 2024.  Born in Camden, he was the 10th child of the late Arthur W. and Mae Helms Robinson. He was a graduate of Camden High School, Bob Jones University and California Baptist University. On September 19, 1947, Mr. Robinson made a profession of faith in Christ and was saved in Camden First Baptist Church and on September 19, 1954 he was ordained to the Gospel ministry in the same church. Brother Dave served five churches as senior pastor. His first pastorate was a part time position at Southside Baptist Mission in Camden. At a time when the average tenure of a pastor was 2 to 3 years, Brother Dave was not one to follow that trend. He began his full time ministry in California at Twenty-nine Palms Baptist Church in Twenty-nine Palms (6 years), then moved to First Southern Baptist Church in Pomona (10 years). In 1972 he and his young family returned to South Carolina to serve Lugoff First Baptist Church (22.5 years). Pastor Dave concluded 50 years of full time ministry at First Baptist Church in Wagener (11 years) in 2006. Following his retirement he went on to shepherd seven congregations in the Camden area as an interim pastor.

In addition to his wife, Rose Ann Robinson, he is survived by his daughter, Michele “Mickey” Ogburn  (Jerome); son, David Todd Robinson; grandchildren, Jennifer Austin (Josh) and Jessica Ogburn; great-grandchildren, Henry David Austin and Arthur Louis Austin; nieces, Audrey Cassady, Kelly Wessinger and Susan Moran; nephews, W.O. Robinson, Jr., William Gundaker, Lewis Robinson, Jr., Heyward Robinson, and Michael Blake.

He was predeceased by brothers, Elmer Robinson, Wilburn Robinson and Lewis Robinson; sisters, Lucille Gundaker, Sibyl Dabney, Dora Blake, and Annie Losey.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oliver Gospel Mission, 1100 Taylor Street, Columbia, SC 29201 or to Gideons International, www.gideons.org/donate
