Obituary of Michael Kelvin Bennett

Mr. Michael Kelvin “Mike” Bennett, 58, was born on Tuesday, January 12, 1965, in Camden, South Carolina, son of Alberta Perkins Bennett and the late Will Daniel Bennett Jr. He passed away on August 4, 2023.  

 

Mike attended Mt. Joshua Missionary Baptist Church during his youth and graduated from Camden High School in 1983.  After graduation, he enrolled in college and enlisted in the United States Navy.  Upon returning home, he returned to college, graduating with his PHD in Psychology, and becoming fluent in multiple languages.  He was a Vice President and Advisor for the Caribbean American Cultural Association Inc., along with working in Grant & Proposal Writing, as an Immigration Consultant Writer, and in Foreign Language Transitions & Tutoring.

 

In addition to his father, Michael was preceded in death by his sister, Jeanette Thompson; and grandparents, Will and Nettie Bennett and Dalton and Louise Perkins.       

 

In addition to his mother, those left to cherish his memory include his children, Michael (Derrell) Bennett of Augusta, GA, Brandon Bennett of Charleston, SC, Sarah Colbert of Columbia, SC, Ebony Colbert of Lexington, SC, and Aleesia and Stefan Bennett of Camden, SC; his grandchildren, Lakeysha Colbert, Tannia Colbert, Jaipy’e Delli, Faith Jones, JennaVeev Delli, Jemizhia Delli, Jim Delli, Jhia Delli, and Kahleil Delli; siblings, Linda (Bobby) Reid of Cassatt, Michelle King of Lugoff, and Carolyn Mincey of Delaware; aunts, Vivian Barnes, Pearl Bennett, Linda W Bennett, Edith Collins, Carolyn Houston, Nettie McClendon, Wanda Perkins, Jessie (Sue) Prescott, and Mary Vaughn; uncles, James Bennett, Michael O Bennett, and Phillip Perkins; as well as a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Burial will follow in Mt. Joshua Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

 

Due to the lingering effects of COVID-19, the family requests that those in attendance please wear a mask.
