Obituary of Roger McKay, Sr.

LUGOFF-A service to celebrate the life of Roger Dale McKay, Sr., 73, will be held on Monday, June 5, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home.  The Rev. Tim Shirley will officiate.  The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to Lugoff Church of God.

Mr. McKay passed away at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, June 1, 2023.  Born in Timmonsville, he was the son of the late Charlie Junior and Rilla Mae Watford McKay.  He served in the United States Marine Corp during Vietnam.  He retired from DuPont where he was a CE Mechanic.  Mr. McKay enjoyed working on and operating heavy equipment also spending time with and teaching those skills to his grandchildren. Mr. McKay enjoyed time at and on Lake Wateree with family and friends.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Margaret Carraway McKay; son, Roger Dale McKay, Jr. (Christy) of Swansea, S.C.; daughter, Sherry M. Sulzer (James) of Lugoff; brother, Barry LeGrand McKay; special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Miriam and Mac Campbell; grandchildren, Quade McKay, Jenna Sulzer and Abby Sulzer; and his dearest and closest friends, Larry and Hazel McCallum.  He was predeceased by brother, Charles Levon McKay; and sister, Brenda Faye McKay Baker.
