Obituary of Grady Wendell Small

Grady Wendell Small, 81, of Lugoff, went peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. Born in Flat Creek, SC, he was the son of the late Frank Benjamin and Francis Byrd Small and the husband of Sharon Marie Small. Grady was a longtime member of Harvest Baptist Church in Lugoff. He served 8 years in the US Air Force before beginning his career with United Airlines, where he retired after 28 years. He always had a passion for airplanes and he also enjoyed fishing and being outdoors. Grady loved music and was a skilled guitar player. After his retirement, he began woodworking and spent his time building birdhouses that he would sell at the Kershaw County Farmer’s Market. Above all, Grady loved his family, his church family, and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

In addition to his wife, Grady is survived by his children, Deborah Kenny (Austin), Jennifer Randolph (John), and Christopher Small; his grandchildren, Jennifer Bosley (Max) and Austin Kenny, III; his brothers, Jackie Small (Diane), Joe Small (Diane), and Charles Small (Kathy); his in-laws in Florida; numerous nieces and nephews; his longtime friends, Ken Deese and Jim Lane; as well as a special friend, Rachel Turner.

In addition to his parents, Grady was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Small, George Small, and John Small; and his sisters-in-law, Pat Small and June Small.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at Harvest Baptist Church, Lugoff, officiated by Rev. Bill Dulaney. The family will receive friends at the church an hour prior to the service, beginning at 2:00pm.
