To Aunt Ethel, Bennie, Henrietta, Vearshon, Shaunte, and the rest of the family, my heart and condolences go out to you at this time. I pray and know that God is giving you and all of us the strength, peace, comfort, and understanding we need as we come to terms with Diane's transition.
She was a special cousin to me, but more like a sister. We hung out together as teenagers and it was always a joy to see and fellowship with her at family gatherings and at other times when we would talk. I loved hearing her say, "Hey cuz!" She loved sharing with me family memories from her childhood, like times she spent with my grandmother, Lastee, her aunt. And she affectionately called my mother, Minnie, "Aunt Minnie," due to their difference in age though my mother is her first cousin. During our last conversation just a few weeks ago, she told me the plans she and Ronald had to take Aunt Ethel to visit my mother.
She was an avid supporter and admirer of my work and would respond lovingly to EVERYTHING I posted about my activities on social media. She often wrote to me and said to me, "I am so proud of you, cuz. Keep doing what you're doing. I love you." I will never forget that. Even now, I am smiling through tears as I reflect on the love and inspiration she poured into my life.
Lady Di, I will miss your physical presence, but I know you will always be with us in spirit. Thank you for the love and all you gave me, your family, and everybody who know and love you. I love you. -Bhakti
