Obituary of Betty Lee Morris Brassell

Betty Lee Morris Brassell, 86, of Elgin, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2021. Born in Huger, SC, she was the daughter of the late LeRoy and Martha Augustus Morris. Betty was a longtime member of Lighthouse Christian Ministries, where she was very active in the church. Among many other activities, she had previously served as the church secretary and had taught Sunday School classes for many years. Betty enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. Above all, the greatest passion in Betty’s life was found in caring for children. After losing her mother at a young age, she helped raise her six siblings. While raising her own children, Betty began her career as a cafeteria worker at Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary School, continuing to care for the children in her community. She was a humble and hard-working woman who led a rich and fulfilled life.

She is survived by her children, Faye Harmon (Van), Marty Brassell (Sandi), and Renee Locklear (Michael); siblings, Mary Thomas, Vernon Morris (Faye), C.B. Morris (Margaret), and Earl Morris (Brenda); sisters-in-law, Lucy Morris, Dorothy Morris, Frances Brassell, and Dollie Brassell; her brother-in-law, Wade Brassell (Rita); grandchildren, Damon Harmon (Lisa), Lauren Lawing (Jason), Sharon Patton, Tiffany Kicklighter (Thad), Taylor Locklear, Austin Brassell, Madison Locklear, Brandon Brassell, Justin Brassell, and Amanda Lanier (Robbie); great-grandchildren, Devin Harmon (Taylor), Justin Kicklighter, Parker Dorman, Lailah Harmon, Hannah Patton, Michael Kicklighter, III, Betty Jean Patton, Annabelle Lanier, and Robert Lanier; and great-great-grandchildren, Addilyn Harmon and Anthony Kicklighter.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her daughter, Kaye Cannon as well as two infant daughters; and siblings, Fred Morris, Delphin Morris, and Kenny Morris.

The family will receive friends from 3:30pm to 5:30pm on Friday, July 30, 2021 at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at East Carolina Congregational Holiness Campground in Elgin, SC. Burial will follow in Greenhaven Memorial Gardens, Elgin, SC.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the entire staff at PruittHealth Hospice for their outstanding care of Betty over the last several weeks.
