I remembered opening Richland Library Sandhills with Jim. He was so proud of what this library would mean to his community. I had the pleasure to work with Jim at Richland Library. I will always remember his kindness, always welcoming those he met with a smile. He will be greatly missed. When I told a mutual friend about Jim's death, she said, "When a person dies, a library closes its doors." The original African proverb is more like, "When an old man dies, a library burns to the ground." Jim was not old by any means, but he was an old soul. He shared with all those he loved his deep wisdom, honest questioning and warm humor. He was an eloquent speaker and writer. He was a tender artist, able to capture an essence in a simple sketch. He was a great co-worker and friend and an excellent librarian. He left much to this world, and we can and should be grateful. But we will miss him terribly. Brenda, my heart goes out to you. You have been the light of his life. May you carry on with your beautiful gifts despite the burden of grief you now must hold. With love, Chris Wagner
