Obituary of Rev. Shelton Joel Shirley

CAMDEN – A service to celebrate the life of The Rev. Shelton Joel Shirley, 67, will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Lugoff Church of God with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorials Park.  The family will receive friends Tuesday 5-7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. 

    Pastor Shirley passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2018.   Born in Camden, he was the son of the late Homer Moore and Lille Bell Cameron Shirley.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree from East Coast Bible College.  He served as an Evangelist for the North Carolina Church of God and pastored Chapel Grove Church of God in Gastonia, N.C., Mt. Holly Church of God in Mt. Holly, N.C., York Wood Church of God in Gastonia, N.C. and Ocilla Church of God in Ocilla, Ga.

    Pastor Shirley enjoyed playing golf, fishing, quail hunting and traveling.

    Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Sebrena Floyd Shirley; son, Dr. Joel Brian Shirley (Lane) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; daughter, Danielle Shirley (Mark Pendleton) of Gastonia, N.C.; sister, Phyllis Ragar; brothers, Grayson Shirley (Sharon) and Tim Shirley (Vickie); and grandchildren, Gavin Stafford, Paisley Shirley and Charlotte Shirley.
