Obituary of Wilbert Blizzard
LUGOFF – Funeral service for James Wilbert Blizzard, 62, will be held Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. at Blaney Baptist Church with burial to follow in Concord Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Phillip Blankenship and the Rev. David Sturgeon will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff and other times at the home, 1747 Baldwin Road, Lugoff, S.C.. Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross Blood Bank or Concord Baptist Church Kitchen Fund or Blaney Baptist Church Building Fund.
Mr. Blizzard died Sunday, October 16, 2011. Born in Camden, he was a son of the late James Rayford and Alma Roberta Jackson Blizzard. He retired as a self employed contractor and was former owner of Kershaw Builders Inc. He formerly served on the Kershaw County Planning and Zoning commission and was the founding fire chief of Doby’s Mill Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of Possum Breeders and was very active in the community.
Surviving are his wife Martha Lynn Poole Blizzard; daughter, Lynn Wright (Curtis) of Lugoff; son, Robin Blizzard (Amy) of Lugoff; sisters, Mildred Lilley, Ida Himes, and Nancy Jeffers (Wayne); and grandchildren, Hunter Blizzard, Mac Blizzard, and Hannah Blizzard. He was predeceased by brothers, Eugene Blizzard and McNeil Blizzard.
