CAMDEN – A service to celebrate the life of Dennis Shumate, Sr., 69, will be held on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. The Rev. Gene Stokes and the Rev. Jimmie Thigpen will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the DAV. Mr. Shumate passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2016. Born in Camden, he was the son of the late Howard and Frances Howard Shumate. He served in the United States Coast Guard during Vietnam. He retired in 2006 and was the owner of Shumate Painting. Mr. Shumate was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Peggy Jo Sutton Shumate; children, Dennis Barry Shumate, Jr. of Cassatt, Lynn Shumate Gregory (John) of Lugoff, and Jennifer Jackson (Gary) of Lugoff; brothers, Wayne Shumate (Kim) and Malloy Shumate (Patsy); and grandchildren, Kimberly Anderson, Dennis Barry Shumate III, Austin John Shumate, and Jacob Dean Jackson.
