Obituary of John Virgil Joyner

CAMDEN – Funeral service for John Virgil Joyner, 84, will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff, with burial to follow in Quaker Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home and other times at the home, 711 Holland Lane, Camden, S.C. Mr. Joyner, husband of the late Grace Joyner, passed away at home on Tuesday, April 26, 2016. Born in Lee County, he was the son of the late Moody R. and Thelma Folsom Joyner. He retired from DuPont and worked for Street Cars in Camden. He enjoyed dancing, horseback riding, going to auctions and spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his companion, Wanda Drawdy; children, Susan King (Michael) of Bishopville, Virgie Locklear (Rusty) of Camden, Ronny Joyner of Birmingham, Ala., Mitchell Joyner (Teresa) of Bishopville, Virgil Allen “Fireball” Joyner (Teresa) of Camden, Cynthia Small of Camden, and Smylie Grantham (Beverly) of Bishopville; brother, Bobby R. Joyner (Dot); sister, Celeste Joyner Murphy; 29 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandson; and special friends, Tammy Johnson (Danny), Lisa Laux (Steve), and Bill Drawdy, all of Sumter, and Carl Boyd of Camden. He was predeceased by son, Billy Grantham; grandsons, James Gerald Morrow, Brian Small and Ashley Grantham; and a son-in-law, Billy Small.
