Obituary of Bill Chalmers
ELGIN – Funeral service for SFC William Peter Chalmers, US Army (Ret’d), 60, will be held Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The Rev. Rick Kirchinger, the Rev. Mike Haynes Jr., the Rev. Douglas Snipes and the Rev. Steve Crout will officiate. The family will receive friends Monday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Anchor Baptist Church Building Fund, 208 Water Wheel Way, Columbia, S.C. 29229.
Mr. Chalmers died Friday, January 25, 2013. Born in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of the late Archibald Lees Chalmers and Veronica Marie Baker Chalmers. He retired from the United States Army after 21 years of service. He was a member of Anchor Baptist Church where he served on the finance committee and as an usher. He enjoyed playing golf and woodworking.
Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Kathy H. Chalmers; daughter, Christie M. Chalmers of Elgin; sister, Kathleen Harcourt (Michael) of Springfield, Ohio; brothers, David Chalmers of Traverse City, Mich., Mike Chalmers of Indian Mound, Tenn., Archie Chalmers of Dover, Tenn., and Doug Chalmers (Jane) of Lewiston, Mich.; aunts, Grace Chatel of Oscoda, Mich., and Marivel Chalmers of Brighton, Mich.; and 5 nieces and nephews.
