Obituary of Nick E. Collins

CAMDEN – A service to celebrate the life of Nicholas Edwin Collins Jr., 89, will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends Monday 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1206 Lyttleton Street, Camden, S.C. 29020. Mr. Collins passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2016. Born in Asheville, N.C., he was the son of the late Nicholas Edwin Collins Sr. and Ruth Miller Collins. He served in the United States Army during WWII and retired from DuPont where he was a security guard. He was a member of Kershaw Lodge 29, the Camden Shrine Club and the Jamil Temple. He an avid reader and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and sports. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Catherine Pate Collins; children, Donald Edwin Collins (Toni) of Mt. Dora, Fla., Linda Collins Truesdale of Camden, Judy Collins Cox (Larry) of Camden, and William Allen Collins of Camden; brother, Loren Collins of Myrtle Beach; 8 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy Ann Robertson Collins; son, Alfred Andrew Collins; son-in-law, Ronger Truesdale; brothers, James "Jimmy" Collins, Lane Collins; and grandson, William Allen Collins II.
