Obituary of Lurlene King Toole

COLUMBIA - Lurlene King Toole passed away peacefully on September 23, 2012 in her home in Columbia. She was a long time resident of Columbia, Lugoff, and Cheraw, S.C. She was preceded in death by her mother, Bernice McKenzie King and father, Everette Landrum King. In 1950, she and her husband, James Leon Toole, Sr., moved to Cheraw and raised their 7 children there. Mrs. Toole was fondly known around Cheraw as the “Yarn Lady”, as she owned and operated a small yarn shop on the corner of Kershaw and Greene Street where she sold knitting supplies and taught knitting lessons. She is survived by her children, Diane Payne, (Cliff – Deceased), Janet Killalea (Greg), James Leon Toole, Jr. (Pam), Michael Toole, (Gail), Patricia Toole Boehmke Jusino, (Armando), Eric Toole, (Celeste) and Phillip Howerton Toole, (Maria);13 grandchildren; and 17 great- grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held at a later date and then her burial will be in Lanett, AL. Mrs. Toole lived a remarkable life. Despite being injured in an automobile accident in 1951 which paralyzed her from her waist down, she was never deterred from participating or encouraging her children to live life to the fullest. She was an inspiration to most everyone who knew her and will surely be missed. In lieu of memorials, the family has requested you keep them in your prayers to help them get through this very difficult time…
