Obituary of George F. Maness

LUGOFF – Graveside service for George Franklin Maness, 83, will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Camden. The Rev. Stephen Jordan and John Floyd will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the service at Powers Funeral Home. Mr. Maness passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2015 after a long illness and was surrounded by family. Born on November 19, 1931 in Troy, N.C., he was the son of the late Ellis Guy and Lula Bell Ledbetter Maness and was raised in Franklinville, N.C. He retired from the United States Air Force after 21 years of service and also retired from DuPont after 17 years. He later worked for Fairfield Electric. Mr. Maness was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Mildred H. Maness. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with family and was an avid fan of University of North Carolina Sports. Surviving are his sons, George Alan Maness (Kathy) of Pooler, Ga., Brian F. Maness of Lugoff, and Gregory G. Maness of Sumter; daughter, Pamela L. Maness (DeDee) of Leesville; brother, Bobby Jo Maness (Marlene) of Cedar Falls, N.C.; and grandchildren, Cori Maness Mulder of Lugoff, Ron N. Sowell and P. Brad Sowell both of Kershaw; great-grandchildren, Lane and Beau Sowell of Rock Hill and Colbie Sowell of Kershaw. Along with his wife and parents, Mr. Maness was predeceased by brothers, Guy and Ed; and sisters, Ann, Cora, Louise and Joyce. The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers from Agape Hospice and Agape Hospice House and Priority One Services for their wonderful care of our loved one.
