ELGIN – Funeral service for Jimmy Whitaker Nelson, 77, will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff, with burial to follow in the Nelson Family Cemetery. The Rev. Richard Cameron and the Rev. Joe Stines will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday 4-6 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Tri-County, 2039 West DeKalb Street, Camden, S.C. 29020. Mr. Nelson passed away on Saturday Morning, July 25, 2015. Born in Camden, he was the son of the late John Dessasure and Della Jackson Nelson. He served in the South Carolina Air National Guard for 12 years and retired from DuPont. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church in Elgin. Mr. Nelson enjoyed farming, working on his tractor, Blue Grass Music and was an avid Clemson Football fan. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Nancy Faye Catoe Nelson; son, Robert Nelson (Pam) of Elgin; grandchildren, Adam Day and Andy Day; sister, Juanita N. Ross of Lugoff; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Victoria Rodriquez and Jessie Stockman; and brothers, David E. Nelson, John Nelson, Franklin Nelson, and William Nelson.
