ELGIN – Funeral services for Betty Lou Murphy, 72, will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Spears Creek Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Old Sawney’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Greg Sweet will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3-5 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Spears Creek Baptist Church Property Fund at 116 Spears Creek Church Lane, Elgin, SC 29045. Mrs. Murphy passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2015. Born in Winnsboro, she was a daughter of the late Caldwell and Ernestine Branham. Mrs. Murphy was a member of Spears Creek Baptist Church. She enjoyed camping and shopping. Surviving are her husband of 55 years, James R. Murphy, Sr.; son, James Murphy, Jr. (Elizabeth) of Charlotte, N.C.; daughter, Teri Kessler (Tom) of Columbia; 6 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
