Obituary of Randall B. Watkins

CAMDEN – After a long battle with cancer, Randall “Randy” Boyd Watkins went to his eternal home with Jesus on Monday, May 04, 2015. He was born at Byerly Hospital in Hartsville on June 29, 1954. Randy was the son of the late James Boyd Watkins and the late Sara Frances Phillips Watkins of Camden. Randy graduated from Camden High School in 1972. He played football, baseball, drove a bus and was very active in the RA’s youth group and youth choir at Wateree Baptist Church. Randy was also a Boy Scout, and DeMolay. He attended the University of South Carolina and was an avid Gamecock fan. Randy was retired from DuPont in Lugoff. He was a deacon, past Sunday School Director, teacher, RA leader, served on the By Laws Committee and several other committees at Wateree Baptist Church. He also played church league ball for years. He coached little league ball for many years. He was a member of El-Bethel Faith Community Church. Randy loved fishing, nature, animals, studying and journaling the Bible, witnessing, and cooking for others. He loved traveling and going on new adventures with his wife, Sheree. He had a bucket list and Sheree made sure he completed the entire list. They were true soulmates. Randy adored his wife, all 5 of his children, and every one of his grandchildren. He was happiest when he was with his family. Randy was a warm, caring, Christian man who had a wonderful sense of humor. Surviving are his wife of 19 years, Sheree Winesett Watkins; children, Melissa Brittain (Donald) of Elgin, Wendy Langston (Trent) of Camden, Jon Watkins (Jennifer) of Georgia, Ashley Stapleton (James) of Lugoff and Jay Watkins of Colorado; grandchildren, Zac, Blake, Grace, Caleb and Breydon Brittain, Whitleigh Langston, Nat, Trey and Ross Watkins, DeWayne, Carrie, Ricky, Wyatt, James Jr., Angel, Hailey, Bubba, Andria, David and Natlie Stapleton, and Anthony and Jayla Watkins. Randy embraced Teresa Mozingo of Camden as his sister and Mary Catherine McDowell Weaver and Betsey McDowell Grier as his nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, and his infant son, Adam Turner Watkins. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Caris Hospice, Ronnie Boyce, Teresa Winesett and Jimmy “Jimbo” Crissman for all of their love and help they have given to Randy and the Family. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at El-Bethel Faith Community Church, Lugoff, with burial to follow in Wateree Baptist Church Cemetery, Camden. The Rev. Joe Stines will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Caris Hospice at 121 Executive Center, Columbia, S.C. 29210 or El-Bethel Faith Community Church at 905 Longtown Rd, Lugoff, S.C. 29078.
