Obituary of Garland Collins
LUGOFF – Funeral service for Garland Dexter “Tootsie” Collins, 87, will be held on Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. at El-Bethel Faith Community Church with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The Rev. Joe Stines will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Dentsville Masonic Lodge, El-Bethel Faith Community Church or a charity of one’s choice.
Mr. Collins, husband of the late Faye Collins, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Friday, April 24, 2015. Born in Lake City, he was the son of the late Joseph R. and Sarrah Prosser Collins. He served in the United States Navy and retired as a self-employed plumber. He was a member of El-Bethel Faith Community Church, a charter member of the Dentsville Masonic Lodge #398, and a former board member for the Falcon Children’s Home.
Surviving are his sons, CMSGT Don Collins, US Air Force Retired (Trudy) of North Myrtle Beach and TSGT Dexter Collins, US Air Force Retired (Betty) of Batesburg; daughter, Nancy Collins of Lugoff; 8 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
