LUGOFF – A service to celebrate the life of Sylvia H. Smith, 68, will be held on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. The Rev. Todd Horton will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday 3:30-4:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Lung Association, 1817 Gadsden St, Columbia, SC 29201. Mrs. Smith died on Thursday, April 23, 2015. Born in Camden, she was the daughter of the late Joe Hornsby Sr. and Marie Bowers Hornsby. She retired from F.N. Manufacturing and she loved working. She was a member of Springvale Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith enjoyed gardening, taking care of her dogs and cats, and most of all spending time with her granddaughter. Surviving are her daughter, Krystal Humphries of Lugoff; brothers, Joe Hornsby Jr. and Michael Hornsby; and granddaughter, Amber Humphries. She was predeceased by brothers, W.L. Hornsby and Paul Hornsby; and sister, Mary Ruth Watts. The family extends a special thanks to the staff of Hospice of Tri-County and her family from Springvale Baptist Church for their loving support.
