Obituary of Clarence Laffin

Lugoff, SC- Clarence Edward “Ed” Laffin Jr., husband of Diane Cone Laffin, entered into rest Friday, February 13, 2015. He was born in Renovo, PA on March 4, 1946 to the late Grace Clonan Laffin and Clarence Edward Laffin. Mr. Laffin is survived by his sons, Travis Edward Laffin (Charleston), William James Laffin, III “Trey” (Emily); daughter, Ashley Laffin Price (Ben); and seven beloved grandchildren, Chance, Lily and Charlie Laffin, Jake and Mollie Grace Laffin and Sadie and Wil Price. Other family members include brothers, William Laffin of Williamsport, PA, Charles Laffin of Fairport, NY; and a sister, Florence Ann Sayman of Williamsport, PA; also numerous nieces and nephews. Ed graduated Williamsport High School in 1964 and attended Williamsport Technical College. He joined the Army in November of 1965 and graduated from Fort Sill Officer Candidate School in 1966 with a commission as a Second Lieutenant in field artillery. Ed served two tours in Vietnam, the first with the 199 Light Infantry Brigade in September of 1968, and his second in 1971 with M.A.C.V. He was awarded four Bronze Stars, the Army Commendation Medal, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Air Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, three Meritorious Service Medals, and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal. He retired as an Army Major in 1983. In 1986 after 20 years of military service, Ed worked for Dana Corporation in Lugoff and retired as Plant Manager in 2001. He was an avid hunter and golfer. A funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. John Zimmerman and the Rev. Paul Brenninkmeijer on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery with full Military Honors. Memorial Contributions may be made to woundedwarriorproject.org. A Rosary service will be held on Wednesday evening at 5:30 and the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 at Powers Funeral Home.
