Obituary of Harold Joseph McNinch

CAMDEN - Graveside service for Harold Joseph McNinch, 95, will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in Quaker Cemetery. Rev. Frank J. Griffith, Jr. and Rev. Thomas W. Smith will officiate. The friends may call at the home of Betsy Bright. Memorials may be made to Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church. Mr. McNinch passed away Friday, March 21, 2008. Born July 29, 1912 in Lancaster, S.C., he was the son of the late Thomas Joseph McNinch and Harriet Dabney McNinch. He served in the United States Navy during WW II and retired from the United States Post Office. He was a member of Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church and a devoted member of the Wimberly Sunday School Class. Mr. McNinch was very active in the City of Camden South Carolina youth athletics. He was a member of the Camden Recreation Commission for over 20 years and was chairman four times. In 1976, he was presented a Distinguished Service Award by the City of Camden. He was President of the South Carolina Pony League Baseball Association for many years. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 17. Mr. McNinch is survived by his wife of 69 years, Elizabeth Workman McNinch; family members, Harold Joseph McNinch, Jr. (Peggy) of Simpsonville, S.C.; Rebie McNinch Green of Aiken, S.C.; Betsy McNinch Bright of Camden, S.C.; Janet McNinch Young of Camden S.C.; Christopher Kevin Young of Columbia, S.C.; Joseph Cook Young of Columbia, S.C.; Samuel James Bright of Moseley, Va.; Harold McNinch Bright of Macon, Ga.; Susan Green Kneece of Aiken, S.C.; Nelson Roswell Green of Lexington, N.C.; and ten great-grandchildren.
