Obituary of John A Ramsey
ELGIN - Funeral service for John Alan Ramsey, 68, will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Union Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Jerry Lewis will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday 7-9 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Memorials may be made to Hospice Southern Care, 720 Gracern Road Suite 122, Columbia, S.C. 29210.
Mr. Ramsey passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, March 14, 2008. Born in Jamestown, N.Y., he was the son of the late Ferma “Bud” and Edna Ramsey. He has been a resident of Kershaw County since 1961. He served in the United States Air Force for eight years during Vietnam and later operated his own Nationwide Insurance Agency in Camden. Finally, working as a car dealer in various dealerships across the local area.
Mr. Ramsey was also a former Lugoff-Elgin High School Booster Club President. While in that position, he founded the River Rat Regatta and the Lugoff-Elgin High School Wrestling program. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Ramsey of Elgin; children, Jeff Ramsey (Michelle), Derick Ramsey (Lindsay), Crystal Monroe (Drew) all of Elgin, Clay Miller of Cape Coral, Fla., and Wesley Miller (Karen) of Columbia; 12 grandchildren; and brothers, Jim Ramsey (Vernette) of Bradenton, Fla., and Bruce Ramsey (Sharon) of Bradenton, Fla. He was predeceased by a daughter, Sonya Ramsey; brother, Mahlon Ramsey; sister, Betty Moynihan.
