Born in Camden, S.C., Mert was a daughter of the late John Jay McLain and Lena Smith McLain. Widow of the late David H. Lemire, Mrs. Lemire was a dedicated wife and loving mother to her only child, the late Gregory H. Lemire. Mert, Dave and Greg enjoyed many years of farming grain on their land that the Lemire family settled on hundreds of years ago in North Dakota. They enjoyed spending their winters in South Carolina as well as traveling around the country, including many trips to Mexico and Canada. She was predeceased in death by her siblings, Evelyn Thompson, Phyllis Mathis, Jack McLain and Robert McLain. Surviving family members are sisters, Jean Fowler Thompson (Foy), Margaret Branham (Robert); brother-in-law, Charlie “Buck” Mathis; and numerous nieces and nephews throughout S.C. and North Dakota. Mert will always be remembered and loved for her strong independent personality and living life on her own terms. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for the loving and compassionate care shown to Mert by the emergency room staff and 10th floor neuroscience/stroke unit at Palmetto Health Richland, as well as to Dr. Francis McCorkle for his many years of service.
