ELGIN – A service to celebrate the life of Jerry Wayne Andrews, 71, will be held on Thursday at 12:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital, 14 Medical Park Rd, Columbia, SC 29203. Mr. Andrews passed away on Monday, October 13, 2014. Born on April 5, 1943 in Chelsea, Ala., he was the son of the late Lillian Andrews. He received an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from Columbia College in Missouri. Mr. Andrews retired from the United States Army after 20 years having served two tours in Vietnam. He also retired from Michelin Tire Corporation in Lexington, S.C after 23 years and worked part-time for the Chronicle-Independent for five years and Kroger on Forest Drive for six months. Jerry was most remembered for his good nature and his wonderful smile. In living there was great joy shared by those who knew him. He was a devoted Alabama and Carolina Football fan. Surviving are his wife, Nancy Carrel Andrews; daughter, Sonya Carrel Andrews of Elgin; his granddaughter who was his pride and joy, Carlie Elizabeth Andrews; brother, Ray Charles Epperson of Alabama; and sisters, Kay Wright of Alabama and Kay Elizabeth Phillips of Alabama. He was predeceased by a son, Wayne Keith Andrews; and brother, Richard Eugene Andrews.
