Obituary of Dorothy Hudson Ogburn

CAMDEN – Dorothy Hudson Ogburn, 90, died September 22, 2014. She was born February 5, 1924 in Fairfield County to Joseph G. and Blanche G. Hudson. She and her beloved husband, William R. “Bill” Ogburn, would have celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary on November 23, 2014. Dorothy was a Christian woman who devoted her life to serving her Lord and her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was a member of Rowan ARP Church for 64 years and served the church in many capacities. She was honored with a Life Membership in the Women’s Ministries and was named a Partner in Ministry along with her husband Bill. She and her husband loved square dancing and were members of the Camden Hi Steppers for more than 30 years. They traveled over most of the United States with the square dancers and formed lifelong friendships. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Beverly Sheorn (Elliott); son, William R. “Bill” Ogburn, Jr.; grandsons, Rob Sheorn (Kim), Mark Sheorn (Monica) and Hudson Ogburn (Barbara Sue); great-grandchildren, Bradley, Wesley, Chance and McCall Sheorn; and a sister, Peggy Cole (John). In addition to her parents she was predeceased by brothers Joseph, Jr., Robert Vernon, and Thomas Ted Hudson. There will be a visitation at Powers Funeral Home on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. The funeral will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Rowan Presbyterian Church with burial to follow in Longtown Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Ridgeway. The Rev. Stephen Jordan will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rowan ARP Church, 818 Ridgeway Rd, Lugoff, S.C. 29078.
