Obituary of Gordon Truett Branham

Gordon Truett Branham was “almost 90” when he passed in Tookiedoo, South Carolina on November 28, 2024. He had to go celebrate Thanksgiving with the love of his life, Mary Jane, she was waiting on him in Heaven to help with the dressing. Gordon- or Doc, or Truett, or Pop, depending on who you are talking too, was born in Tookiedoo on January 27, 1936 and lived a long and beautiful life there with family and friends.

Gordon served his country in the Army as a sharpshooter and was proud to do so. He worked and retired at Shakespeare for 38 years- he met many good friends and made lots of memories there. After he retired, he worked on his garden, wrote and sung his funny songs, took care of his beautiful azaleas, taught his granddaughter to drive, visited family, the mountains, and Sam’s. Pop was a caregiver and made sure everyone he knew was well-fed and happy. He was the man you sought if you needed wise advice or help on a project. Pop always knew what to do.

The gatherings will not be the same without Doc- he used to host the roasts, the fry’s, and the celebrations. He was the self-proclaimed “Hushpuppy King of the South” but everyone would agree with that statement! He enjoyed grilling and cooking for his family. And there was always enough for any friends that you brought along too!

Pop was one of the most stubborn men you would ever meet- he would love you unconditionally, tell you the hard truths, and help you through it all. He made sure everyone he interacted with knew they were important and that they mattered to him and that they mattered in this world. He would be able to work in a few jokes and teases and you knew Pop had your back.

We will all miss Pop. He has left a hole here in Tookiedoo that we will not be able to fill. His earth-side family, daughter Pam (Floyd) Goff and son Gordon Jr (Megan) Branham, his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his nieces and nephews will gather and eat and celebrate his memory every holiday and he will be on our minds every day. Gordon’s family in heaven, Mary Jane, daughter Kathy, and his brothers and sisters, parents and friends have welcomed him and are celebrating his arrival.

We love you Pop. We will see you two doors down at the party!
