Obituary of LaVerne Reginald Jeffers
LaVerne Reginald Jeffers, Sr., 83, passed away on Wednesday, November 06, 2024 peacefully at home surrounded by his beloved family. Born in Columbia, SC he was the son of the late Willie Edward Jeffers and Vivian Truesdale Melton. He founded and operated his own company, Jeffers and Son, in Commercial Construction and was in business for 45 years. He was a member of Sawney's Creek Baptist Church in Ridgeway, SC and in Metal Building Contractors Erector Association. He received numerous awards in metal buildings. He enjoyed working, fishing, hunting, NASCAR, drag racing, gardening, music, singing, nature, and rock collecting. But above all else he enjoyed being with his family and was known for being a family man.
Left to cherish his memories is his companion, Donna Ward of Lugoff, SC; daughter, Renee Jeffers Wooten of Lexington, SC; daughter-in-law, Nicole Sloan of Elgin, SC; son-in-law, Darrell Grigsby of Elgin, SC; sister-in-law, Betty Lynn Jeffers of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Chris Grigsby (Sarah) of Elgin, SC , Matthew Grigsby (Kelly) of Elgin, SC , Dylan Grigsby (Mackenzie) of San Antonio, TX, Kelsey Murphy (Ray) of Leesville, SC, Lauren Roland (Scotty) of Lexington, SC, Britney Burke (Daniel) of Lexington, SC and Cassy Jeffers of Columbia, SC; 16 great-grandchildren and special friend, Gene Hayes.
In addition to his late wife, Sandra B. Jeffers, he was predeceased by his son, LaVerne Reginald Jeffers, Jr. of Elgin, SC; daughter, Pamela Kay Grigsby of Elgin, SC; friend and former wife, Esther Jeffers of Columbia, SC; brothers, Billy Jeffers of Columbia, SC and Victor Jeffers of Columbia, SC and granddaughter, Mandy Jeffers of Elgin,SC.
A funeral service honoring the life of Mr. Jeffers will be held Sunday, November 17, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Powers Funeral Home in Lugoff, SC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Following the funeral, burial will be held in Sawney’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Todd Horton will be officiating services. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to American Cancer Society in honor of Mr. Jeffers.
