Obituary of Emmie D. Zirkle

LUGOFF – A memorial service for Emmie Hunter Zirkle, 71, will be held on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Everett and the Rev. John Larrick Zirkle III officiating. Burial will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. in Bethune Baptist Church Cemetery, Bethune. The family will receive friends Sunday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Memorials may be made to Trinity Baptist Church Kentucky Ministries, 1062 Ridgeway, S.C. 29078. Mrs. Zirkle, wife of the late John L. Zirkle Jr., died Friday, August 8, 2014. Born in Camden, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Julius Ceaser and Annie Mae Campbell Hunter. She was a registered nurse and retired from the South Carolina Department of Corrections. She was a member of Parents Involved in Education. Mrs. Zirkle was a devoted member of Trinity Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher, a member of Helping Hands Ministry, and the church book club. She had a passion for helping others and was past director of the Kershaw Baptist Association Disaster Relief Team, volunteered in Lynch, Ky. with Solomon’s Porch, Club 180 and the Freedom Center. She also served on the South Carolina Southern Baptist Convention Board. Surviving are her sons, John Larrick Zirkle III (Kathy) of Sandusky, Ohio, and Lee Warren Zirkle of Elgin; great-grandson, John Lee Watson of the home; sisters, Shirley Johnson of Lugoff, and Rachel Rentas (Ray) of Lugoff; brothers, Donald Hunter (Mozelle) of Lugoff, Morris Hunter (Janice) of Bethune and Avery Hunter (Cindy) of Bethune; grandchildren, Carrin, Andrew, John Mark, Daniel, Hayley and Brandi; and great-grandchildren, Kimberlee, Kadence, Owen, Faith and Tanner. She was predeceased by a brother, Floyd Hunter.
