Obituary of Charlie Pate
A celebration of life service for Charlie Pate, 89, will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday October 19, 2024 at Lugoff First Baptist Church, with burial to follow inTimrod Baptist Church Cemetery, Bethune. The Rev. Doug Huntsinger will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
Charlie died peacefully at home on October 14, 2024, and entered into the glorious realm of Heaven. He was welcomed with open arms by our Lord Jesus Christ. Charlie was born at home in upper rural Kershaw County, S.C. He was the oldest son of Charles B. Pate Sr. "Doc" and Loma H. Pate. He was predeceased by Libby, his wife of 59 years; six sisters, Mary Myrtle Jones, Margie Horton, Oletta Dease, Ethel Raley, Bernice Hopkins and Elsya Rahae Knight. He is survived by a son, C. Britt Pate III (Pam), grandsons Andrew Pate (Monica) and William Pate; two brothers Keith Joel Pate and Cecil Morris Pate.
Charlie retired from Dupont and was a member of the S. C. National Guard. He loved God, his family, his church and his country. He was a dedicated member of Lugoff First Baptist Church and served as a deacon and treasurer for many years. He thoroughly enjoyed all the time he and Libby spent camping all across the United States and Canada. He really cherished the times he spent with his grandsons and extended family. The family would like to extend special heartfelt thanks to Amedisys Hospice of Sumter, Teri, Suzanne and Karen for their expert care and compassion for Charlie.
