Obituary of Laura Blume Goff

Elgin – Laura Mae Blume Goff’s life celebration will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, October 8th in the Hllcrest Baptist Church sanctuary with burial to follow in the church cemetery.  The Reverend Bill Drees will officiate. Viewing will be held Tuesday from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church and the family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall.

Mrs. Goff, 92, passed away at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, October 2, 2024. She was born in Blythewood, South Carolina, the daughter of the late Allie Richard and Janie Mattox Blume.

Laura was a state all star basketball player and honor grad of Blythewood High School.  A retired manager at Mutual of Omaha, she had a singular employer her entire career which spanned “44 years, 7 months, and 10 days” (not that she was counting).

Preston Henry Goff was her beloved husband of 63 years.  He spent much of that time “driving Miss Daisy” in their 1968 convertible Cadillac with the rag top up – unless her hair stylist was available  immediately thereafter.    Best described as a classy lady with southern charm mixed with a little spitfire, she adored her family and cooked many delicious meals that included her prized macaroni and cheese served in her recognizable hammered silver serving bowl. Everyone who attended a Hillcrest Baptist Church function since 1956 would search high & low for this coveted dish.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Jennifer Albert (Rusty) of Elgin; grandchildren Alex Hall, Tyler Hall, Chelsea Brewer (Jim), Maggie Williams (Garret); great grandson Harlan Brewer; sisters Doris Stroman, Betty Lomas, Frances Forest, and many cherished nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by son Preston Henry Goff, Jr; sister Maxine Able; and brothers Buddy Blume, Robert Blume, Jimmy Blume, and Clyde Blume.

Having been a devoted member of Hillcrest Baptist Church for decades until she could no longer physically attend, memorials may be made here in her honor.
