Obituary of Rev. Dr. Otis G. Oliver, Jr.

Lugoff – A celebration of life service for Rev. Dr. Otis Guy Oliver, Jr., 86, will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Bethune Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends Monday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethune Presbyterian Church.

   Pastor Oliver went home to his Lord and Savior on Friday, September 27, 2024. Born in Bristol, TN, he was a son of the late Otis Guy Oliver, Sr. and Dorothy Thomas Oliver. Pastor Oliver received his PhD in Theology from Notre Dame and went on to pastor at several different churches in Hawesville, KY; Graham, KY; Memphis, TN; Owensboro, KY; Chattanooga, TN; Williston, SC; Abbeville, SC; and 3 SC churches in Camden, Morningside Presbyterian Lake Wateree, and Bethesda Presbyterian. He taught at Camden Military Academy and at seminaries in Jackson, MS; and Due West, SC; and served as campus minister at University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS. He was currently the pastor of Bethune Presbyterian these last 20 years. He dedicated his life to ministry and supporting other ministries.

     Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Rebecca Newman Oliver; son, Guy Newman Oliver (Sara) of N. Augusta, SC; daughter, Bethany Montoya (Mark) of Lugoff; grandchildren, Andrew Oliver, Daniel Oliver, Rebecca Oliver, Kristin Montoya, Adam Montoya, Holly Montoya; and 8 great-grandchildren.
