Obituary of Vernon Williams
Lugoff – A service to celebrate the life of Vernon Keith Williams, 94, will be held on Monday, September 16, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church. The Rev. Gary Rivas and the Rev. William Smith will officiate. The family will receive friends Monday, September 16, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. prior to the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Stay-A-Hatchie/Salkehatchie.
Mr. Williams passed away at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 7, 2024. Born in Swansea, S.C., he was the son of the late Walter Leonard and Carrie Belle Williams. He served in the United States National Guard.
Mr. Williams attended Clemson College and received his bachelor’s degree from Newberry College and received his master’s degree from Appalachian State. He was an educator at Clearwater Elementary in North Augusta and James Island Elementary in James Island, S.C. and retired as a principal from Pine Tree Hill Elementary. After retirement he worked at Horse Branch Hall for 18 years as the overseer/ground’s keeper.
During his tenure in James Island, he worked for the YMCA. He was a life member of PTA and past district Master of Masons. He was a member of the Shriners. He enjoyed gardening and fishing. Mr. Williams was a faithful member of Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church where he had served on many committees.
Surviving are his wife, Jeanette Jackson Williams; children, Ronald Keith Williams (Kathy) of Blythewood, S.C., Paul Laverne Williams (Becky) of Greer, S.C., Karen Vernette Williams of Lugoff, S.C., and Jeannie Williams Sharpe (Vance) of Blythewood, S.C.; 5 grandchildren, Kelli McCormick (Kevin), Dustin Williams (Ashley), Austin Williams (Sarah), Brent Sharpe (Lauren), and Bailey Sharpe; and 3 great-grandchildren, Jackson McCormick, Harrison McCormick, and Millison Williams. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Ashley B. Williams; and brothers, Carroll S. Williams, Leonard Williams, and Raydell R. Williams.
The family extends a special thanks to Dorian Davis the caregiver of Mr. Williams for his loving care.
