Obituary of Mary "Sue" Carter
CAMDEN- A celebration of life service for Mary Tidwell “Sue” Carter, 94, will be held Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. The Rev. Philip Gerrald will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home from 5-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to United Way of Kershaw County or First Baptist Church, Camden. A private burial will be held in Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
Mrs. Carter, wife of the late James Franklin Carter, Sr., passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024. Born in Town Creek, AL, she was a daughter of the late Marcus Tinsley Tidwell and Lurlie Mae Markham Tidwell. Mrs. Carter was a member of First Baptist Church, Camden where she served as Bible drill leader for 10 years. She also served in the adult choir, served on the flower committee, and served as the program director for Young at Heart. She also was a member of the Professional Women’s Club, Bridge Club, and was the former owner and operator of Lugoff House of Flowers.
Surviving are her children, Jimmy Carter (Debbie), Pam Spivey (Don), Cheryl Cobb (Randy); brother, Harold Tidwell (Mary Lou); 9 grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by siblings, James Tidwell and Betty Joe Barnes.
