Obituary of David Earl McCaskill

Philippians 4:13

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

David Earl McCaskill

David Earl McCaskill passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024. Born January 15, 1965, to the late Sam and Agnes McCaskill in Camden, SC, David Earl McCaskill could do all things. He built a business from the ground up and grew it into one of the largest power sweeping and maintenance companies in the Southeast. He could fix what was broken, solve any problem, help anyone in need, and he loved the Lord with all his heart. Even though he had tremendous business success, his greatest achievement was his family. He loved to be with his family on the water in his boat! He counted sunsets with his wife, Fran (Fogleman) McCaskill and tried to determine how many they had seen. He was so proud of both his daughters and if you talked to him for any length of time you knew he adored them. He loved the guitar, Gamecock sports, Camden, Lake Wateree and boating, which earned him the nickname of “The Captain” by most of the girls’ friends. He hosted countless youth groups, end of the year parties, and 4th of July celebrations at his home on Lake Wateree (Camp David) where he stayed on the boat pulling a tube most of the time. He was a reserve policeman for over 20 years and the law enforcement community was a second family to him. Prior to his illness, David was an active member of First Baptist Columbia, Caprecian Club, Palmetto Club, former member of 800 Sweeper, NAPSA, and past chairman of the Lake Wateree Association. David had a love for music and giving back to others.

He is survived by his wife, Fran (Fogleman) McCaskill; daughters, Dr. Ashley McCaskill Foreman (Reid) and Mary Elizabeth McCaskill Miller (Chip); brothers, Myron Wayne McCaskill (June) and Fredrick Darrin McCaskill (Yana); and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Samuel Dale McCaskill (Debbie).

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Columbia with burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm – 2pm in Ellis Hall at the church.

In lieu of flowers, you can make a donation to the Fran and David McCaskill Performing Arts & Movement Studio at Camp Cole where instruments and items will be purchased so David's love of music will be spread to thousands of campers. Donations can be made to Camp Cole at PO Box 6377 Columbia, SC, 29260 with David McCaskill in the memo line or online at

Also a huge thank you and my deepest appreciation to Erin Jordan, our personal Physical Therapist and Dr Jonathan Engh and his staff at Lexington Brain and Spine for giving David the one thing he wanted, “time”!
