Obituary of Johnny Farrell Stokes, Sr.

Johnny Farrell Stokes, Sr., 81, of Bishopville, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Camden, he was the son of the late Charlie T. Stokes, Sr. and the late Lurene Brown Stokes and the husband of Janie Maria Stokes. Johnny was a longtime member of Antioch Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and a Sunday school teacher. He was an extremely hard worker, working as a Superintendent for Sumwalt & Associates Commercial Construction for over 45 years and farming all throughout his life. Johnny was an avid NASCAR fan and especially enjoyed watching Dale Earnhardt, Sr. He loved his truck, his tractor, horses, and his four-legged princess, Lily. In his younger days, Johnny enjoyed playing baseball and softball and singing Southern Gospel music with his family. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed many Saturday and Sunday mornings around the breakfast table with them. Above all, Johnny loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

In addition to his loving wife, Johnny is survived by his sons, Johnny F. Stokes, Jr. (Terri), Chad L. Stokes (Donna), and Russell Scott Stokes (Jennifer); grandchildren, Tyler, Matthew, Hunter, Samantha, Andy (Megan), Garland (Amanda), Lawson (Daisy), Leah, Josh, and Eden; a great-grandchild, Paisleigh Stokes; his siblings, Luke Stokes (Diane), Lavonne Grooms, Judy Capell, and Wayne Stokes; a sister-in-law, Belinda Stokes; as well as numerous other family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by his siblings, Keritha Worley, Charlie T. “Bud” Stokes, Jr., and Lonnie Stokes.
