Obituary of Richard August Dittmar

Richard August Dittmar, 72, of Camden, and formerly of the California Bay Area, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024. Born in Oakland, CA, he was the son of the late Charles Richard Dittmar and Mary Oddo Blondin. He was a US Navy veteran, having served during the Vietnam War Era. Richard loved riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles, watching old westerns, and cheering for the San Francisco 49ers and the Colorado Rockies. He enjoyed reveling in the magnitude of the ocean and feeling the freedom of the open road. Richard was a patient and loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His family said it best with this quote, “he will always be young, he will always be handsome, he will always be vibrant. He is riding his Harley on the Forever Road, where the sun always shines, and the poppies never die. He will be lonesome no more.”

Richard is survived by his daughters, Christa Gallagher (Adam) and Linda Richter; grandchildren, Jodi, Alexia, and Wyatt; great-grandchildren, Jace, Jaden, Everett, and Jaxon; and his sisters, Connie, Devvy, and Lisa.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Dittmar.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia.
