Obituary of Virginia Marie Reynolds

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Virginia Marie Reynolds, a devoted wife, mother, sister, and cherished member of the community. Marie departed this life on January 16, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and warmth. Born in Hampton, SC, Marie was the daughter of Horace Leon Belger and Georgia Viola Johnson Belger. She was predeceased by her brothers Marvin, Earl, Melvin, and Raymond, and sisters Eunice Nix and Virgie Hubler.

Marie is survived by her devoted husband of 73 years, James Edward Reynolds, who stood by her side through thick and thin. Their enduring love was a testament to the commitment they shared, creating a lifetime of memories together. She is also survived by her daughter, Linda McCartha, and her husband Robert of Irmo, SC, her son, James Edward Reynolds, Jr. (Jim), and his wife Diane of Greenville, SC.  Additionally, her granddaughter, Emily Harris and her husband Luke of Vienna, VA, and her great grandchildren George and Charlie.

Marie's legacy extends to her surviving brothers, Don Belger and his wife Bonnie of Lugoff, SC, and Roger Belger of Tioga, Texas. Their familial bonds were strong, marked by shared laughter, joys, and the deep connection that only siblings can understand.

A pillar of resilience, Marie was known for her unwavering commitment to family and her unyielding work ethic. Alongside her husband, she spent over 60 years as a member of Lugoff First Baptist Church. There, they formed lasting friendships, attended Sunday school, and actively contributed to various church activities.

Marie’s and James's shared passion for cultivating life extended beyond their family and church. They founded and operated Reynolds Nursery, a testament to Marie's green thumb and love for growing flowers and plants. After years of hard work, they retired in 2022, leaving behind a legacy of beauty and growth in their community.

Rodolfo Morales, a beloved friend and helper, stood by Marie and James for many years at the nursery and in their home, generously offering his devotion and assistance. Many will remember Diva, Marie's cherished family pet, who faithfully greeted customers at the nursery and remains with James at their home.

Ann and Danny Frye, her dear friends, played integral roles in Marie's life. Ann, a retired nurse, selflessly volunteered her time to assist Marie and James with medical matters, ensuring their well-being.

Marie also leaves behind a tapestry of cherished memories with family and friends, too numerous to mention, but each held close to her heart.

As we mourn her passing, let us celebrate the indomitable spirit of Virginia Marie Reynolds and the love that she shared with those fortunate enough to know her.

A graveside service to memorialize Marie's life will occur at 2pm on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Lugoff First Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Lugoff First Baptist Church, 106 Longtown Rd, Lugoff, SC 29078, a place of worship so dear to Marie's heart. Friends may come to the funeral home between the hours of 4-6pm on Monday, January 22, 2024, to visit and sign the guestbook if they wish.

May Virginia Marie Reynolds rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the beauty she cultivated in life, and may her family find comfort in the cherished memories they shared with her throughout the years, and secure in the faith that they will spend eternity together one day.
