BETHUNE - A memorial service for Charles Edward McCoy, 75, will be held on Sunday, December 31, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. The family will receive friends 1hr prior to the service at the funeral home. The Rev. Jackie Knight will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Union United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, PO Box 522, McBee, SC 29101.

Mr. McCoy passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023. Born in Darlington, SC, he was a son of the late Harvey Beasley McCoy and Bessie Locklair McCoy. He enjoyed fishing and working in his yard with his chickens. Charles was the former mayor of Bethune, a member of the Lion’s Club, and a Bethune volunteer firefighter and rescue squad member for over 40 years. He was loved by everyone who knew him, enjoyed helping others, and adored his grandchildren.

Surviving is his wife, Lawann Newman McCoy; children, Ginger McCoy Farmer and Christopher Charles McCoy (Jeri); grandchildren, Tyler Pressley Farmer, Hunter James McCoy, and Jenna Abigail McCoy; brother, William B. “Billy” McCoy; numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his daughter, Wanda McCoy.
