Obituary of Leona Ruth Payton

Leona Ruth Cunningham Payton, our “Memaw”, 83, passed away peacefully with family by her side on December 3, 2023. She was born in West Union, WV on February 6, 1940 to the late Boyd and Stella Cunningham.

She enjoyed selling Avon, eating at Golden Corral, making fudge and her famous lasagna, along with spending time with loved ones and friends. 

She is survived by her sons, Michael Payton (Anna), Roger Payton (Debbie), and David Payton (Melissa); sister, Peggy McKinney; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving partner, Ed Nyberg; brother, Glenn Cunningham; and daughter, Vicky Twiford.

Funeral Services will be held at 6:00pm on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service, beginning at 5:00pm. Burial will be held at a later date in Cabin Run Cemetery, West Union, WV.
