Obituary of Doris C. Chavis

LUGOFF – Funeral service for Doris Catoe Chavis, 81, will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Springvale Baptist Church with burial to follow in Oakridge Baptist Church Cemetery in Kershaw. The Rev. Todd Horton will officiate. The Family will receive friends Wednesday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Mrs. Chavis passed away on Monday, June 9, 2014. Born in Lancaster County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Franklin and Annie Dease Catoe. She retired form DuPont where she was a supervisor and was a member of Springvale Baptist Church. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, and was a former volunteer with KershawHealth. Surviving are her husband, Nazroe Chavis; son, Roger Payne, and wife Antoinette, of Camden; daughter, Sandra Hinson of Camden; sisters, Mae Payne, Martha Holton, Lucille Humphries and Kathy Johnson; brother, John Catoe; grandchildren, Matt Stephens, Quentin Stephens, J.P. Stephens, Nikki Bagwell, Chris Hasty, Sarah Baker and Daniel Payne; and great-grandchildren, Austin Stephens, Tyler Bagwell, Riley O’Neil, Laine Stephens, Matty Stephens, Brittney Stephens, Brayden Hasty and Brody Hasty. She was predeceased by a daughter, Donna Payne; sisters, Joann Denstats and Elizabeth Catoe; and a brother, Robert Catoe.
