Obituary of Steven Glynn Wilke

ELGIN –  A Memorial Mass for Steven Glynn Wilke, 76, will be celebrated on Friday, November 10, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church.  The Rev. Father Sandy McDonald will officiate.  The family will receive friends following the service at the church.  Committal service will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John Neumann Catholic Church.

 

Mr. Wilke passed away at MUSC Downtown on Monday, November 6, 2023.  Born in Breckenridge, MN, he was the son of the late Markus Alfred and Ruth Irene Glynn Wilke.  He graduated from the University of North Dakota – Ellendale Branch with a Bachelor of Science in Education.    He served in the United States Navy and received many accommodations.  While in the Navy, he helped create a Drug Awareness Program. He retired from IBM where he was a dedicated employee for over 25 years.

 

Steve, a man of integrity and kindness touched the lives of all who knew him.  His sense of humor and unwavering support endeared him to friends and family alike.  When he wasn’t busy telling jokes, he could be found woodworking in his shop.  He never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone in need.

 

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Peggy Mae Shock Wilke; children, Brady Wilke (Nicole) of Columbia, Casey Pearson (Jon Baskin) of Elgin, Michael Walsh of Portland, OR, Sara Tomlinson (Steven) of West Columbia, and Jamie Hunnicutt (Michael) of Weaverville, N.C.; siblings, Iris Wilke, John Wilke (Ophie), Marshall Wilke (Lynda), Becky Wilke (Kent Langseth), Cele Wilke, Leslie Wilke (Marsha) and Kevin Wilke; and grandchildren, Haley Pearson, Maxwell Sims, Natalie Sims, Ava Wilke, Anderson Wilke, Maggie Hunnicutt, Colin Hunnicutt, and Parker Hunnicutt.  He was predeceased by his twin sisters, Carol Wilke and Karen Wilke Walsh.
