Obituary of Katey Michelle Tyler

Katey Michelle Tyler, 40, of Elgin, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, after a brave six-year battle with breast cancer, reuniting with her father who passed of cancer in 2019. Born in Johnson City, NY, she was the daughter of the late Edward Timothy David and Candace Faye Dingman David and the wife of Jason C. Tyler. Katey was a beloved 5^th grade teacher at Rice Creek Elementary School. She received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina. Katey was very skilled at crafting and used her talents to decorate her classroom and make Japanese Midori’s for her friends and fellow teachers. Katey developed a fondness for Okinawa, Japan while her husband was stationed there. She also enjoyed taking trips to the beach and taking long walks in nature. Above all, Katey was a kind and selfless woman with a pure spirit who loved her family dearly. She will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

In addition to her mother and loving husband, Katey is survived by her children, Caleb A. Tyler and Courtney F. Tyler; her siblings, April Childers (Stacy) and Timothy E. “Tim” David (Susan); her maternal grandmother, Sandra Dingman; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life Service at a later date.
