Obituary of Lavern Rogers

Lavern Rogers, 90, of Camden, passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023. Born in Camden in the Antioch Community, he was the son of the late Alexander M. and Olivia H. Rogers and the husband of Betty Croft Rogers. Lavern was a proud US Army veteran, retiring as a 1^st Sergeant after 23 years of faithful service. After his time in the military, he worked as a supervisor in the textile industry. Lavern was a lifetime member of Antioch Baptist Church in Camden, where he served as an Usher for over 15 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, fishing, and gardening. Lavern was also a skilled woodworker and ran a small business making outdoor furniture for several years. He always loved animals, especially the dogs he had throughout his life. Lavern was a kind and caring person who was good to everyone he met. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed.

In addition to his wife, Lavern is survived by his children, Rhonda Lynn Bermudez (Alex), Mary Jo Farley (Al), and Van “David” Rogers (Rachel); step-children, Talley Truesdale, Jr. (Maryann) and Nelson Truesdale; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Lavern was preceded in death by his daughter, Angela Hancock; step-children, William Truesdale, Margaret Trimnal, and Vickie Harris; as well as eight siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Antioch Baptist Church, Camden. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service, beginning at 1:00pm. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
