Obituary of Terry Milton Hancock

CAMDEN - A family graveside service for Terry Milton Hancock will be held at Lucknow Baptist Church on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at 2pm. Visitation will follow at 4pm in Westminster Hall at Bethesda Presbyterian Church in Camden.

Mr. Hancock was born on November 15, 1937, in Lucknow to Bonnie and Howell Hancock. He played baseball and football at Bishopville High School before graduating in 1955. He left the family farm and joined the U.S. Air Force, traveling to Hawaii, Japan and Taiwan. He loved entertaining his family with stories of his adventures, especially seeing Elvis Presley “electrify” the crowd in Hawaii.

He returned to the states and attended the University of South Carolina, where he earned a degree in accounting and met the love of his life, Janie Marjorie Blackwell Hancock.

He became an IRS agent in 1964, where he met and formed a lifelong friendship and business partnership with Austin Sheheen from 1967-2020. He practiced public accounting as a founding partner of Sheheen, Hancock & Godwin.

Mr. Hancock was a faithful member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Camden Rotary Club and Jaycees for many years.

He loved traveling, USC, golf, and his family. He was predeceased by his parents, Howell and Bonnie Hancock; sister, Linda; brother; Allen; and wife, Janie. He leaves behind to mourn, sons, William (Lorine) of Columbia and Brian of Camden; grandchildren, Elizabeth Jane and Grace Hancock, Terry and Jacob Hancock; nephews, Matt and Paul Watts.

He relished the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren, and his proudest moments were in their successes and happiness. Our dead are never dead to us until we have forgotten them.

Memorials may be made to Central Carolina Technical College Foundation or Bethesda Presbyterian Church.
