Obituary of Akiko Hara Bowers

CAMDEN – Funeral service for Akiko Hara Bowers, 89, will be held on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church in Kershaw with burial follow in the church cemetery.  The Rev. Todd Gandy will officiate.  The family will receive friends Sunday 2:00-3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.  Memorials may be made to Providence Baptist Church.

Mrs. Bowers, wife of the late Harold J. Bowers, passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2023.  Born in Toyko, Japan, she was the daughter of the late Tamazo and Humiyo Hoki Hara.  She retired from Wateree Textile.  She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed painting, flower arranging, embroidery, ceramics and making dolls.

Surviving are her daughter, Jo Arant of Kershaw; sons, H. Wayne Bowers of West Columbia and John T. Bowers (Gwen) of Camden; sisters, Kanako, Setuko and Kayoko, all of Japan; grandchildren, Becky Arant, Alex Bowers and Jesse Bowers; great-grandchildren, Alayna Arant and John Weston Henderson; and a step-great-grandson, Dalston Snipes.  She was predeceased by a brother, Kyokazu Hara; son-in-law, Frank Arant; and grandson, Jamie Arant.
